This clip is from the first of four BBC programmes I directed with writer and presenter, Peter Taylor on the history of the Provisional IRA and Sinn Fein. It tells a little of the early recruitment of IRA volunteers, the Bloody Sunday killings in1972, and the IRA bombing campaign that followed in its wake. Working in Northern Ireland for Newsnight and Panorama and the making of these programmes kindled a lasting interest in terror campaigns and provided some of the inspiration for ‘To Kill A Tsar’.
