Welcome
Welcome to my website. The site is for those who would like to read a little of the historical background to my books, in particular To Kill A Tsar and The Interrogator.
There are features, a rogues' gallery, interviews, maps, links to useful websites, clips from some of my documentaries and a Q and A section for those who would like to know more. Please drop me a line if you have a question; I can't promise to know the answer but if I don’t I'll try and point you in the right direction.
I've always been passionately interested in the past, perhaps inevitably - my parents were history teachers – and I hope the information I've pulled together here contributes to your enjoyment of my stories too.

The Poison Tide - in August
The Poison Tide is on its way to the printer for publication in August. A spy thriller set in World War One, the action takes place in Berlin and New York between 1915 and 1916. As always with my books, it is based on real events - the ruthless campaign of sabotage waged by the Germans in neutral America against Allied interests. Edinburgh International Book Festival
To coincide with the publication of The Poison Tide I am appearing at the Edinburgh International Book Festival on Tuesday the 14th of August at 8.30 p.m. Come along if you can and hear me talk about the inspiration for the book, the history, the trouble and the toil - and ask me a question.
